Abstract

The purpose of the current research is to identify the social studies teachers' training needs at elementary schools in terms of education quality standards at pre-university education. The descriptive approach was used to make use of the literature reviews in educational research areas in the field of education quality standards and training needs before the university education to form the theoretical framework and to prepare the study tools. The two researchers prepared a questionnaire to identify the academic and administrative training needs of social studies teachers and was given to 93 teachers of both genders in the western governates in Egypt during the academic year 2013/2014. The findings showed that there are a lot of academic and administrative educational needs for the elementary school social study teachers. The research recommends that the ministry of education reconsiders the philosophy upon which training programs are held for teachers of social studies so that the goal will be focusing on both sides, academic and administrative. The other goal is to design training programs for social studies teachers at elementary schools in the light of their actual needs.
