Psychometric properties of the Compulsive Hoarding Scale among female university students

Abstract

The current research aimed to develop a scale to measure compulsive hoarding among female university students and verify its psychometric properties by calculating validity, reliability, and internal consistency coefficients. The research sample consisted of (150) female students from the Faculty of Girls at Ain Shams University, aged between (19-21) years. The research tool was the Compulsive Hoarding Scale (prepared by the researcher). The researcher conducted statistical analyses of the results of applying the scale to the research sample, The results of the factorial validity revealed the presence of four dimensions: the behavioral dimension, the emotional dimension, the cognitive dimension, and the social dimension. The value of the correlation coefficient for the validity of the criterion was (0.761), which is significant at the (0.01) level, indicating the validity of the current scale. The results of the scale’s stability also showed that the Cronbach’s alpha coefficients for the sub-dimensions of the compulsive hoarding scale ranged between (0.786-0.917), and the overall stability coefficient of the scale reached (0.971), and the overall stability coefficient for the split-half after correction was (0.918), and the overall stability coefficient by reapplication was (0.810), which are significant values at the (0.01) level. The previous stability values, whether by the Cronbach’s alpha method, or by split-half or reapplication, are all high values, indicating the stability of the compulsive hoarding scale.
