A program based on the semantic approach and its effectiveness in developing reading comprehension skills of the Qur’anic text and religious values among non-Arabic speaking students

Abstract

The research aimed to determine the effectiveness of a program based on the semantic approach in developing the reading comprehension skills of the Qur’anic text among non-Arabic speaking students. The research relied on the experimental method in its quasi-experimental design with one experimental group. The research group also consisted of a group of non-Arabic speaking students, numbering (20) Students at the Sheikh Zayed Center for Teaching Arabic to Non-Native Speakers at Al-Azhar University. The research relied on several tools: a list of reading comprehension skills for the Qur’anic text, a test of reading comprehension skills for the Qur’anic text, and a program based on the semantic approach. The program was implemented in the academic year. (2022/2023 AD). The application of the program was preceded by the application of a pre-test on the sample, after which the tools were applied post-hoc to identify the effectiveness of the program in developing reading comprehension skills of the Qur’anic text. Appropriate statistical methods were also used, and the research has proven the effectiveness of the program in developing comprehension skills. Reading comprehension of the Qur’anic text through the total score of the test and the total score for each sub-skill. The study recommended the necessity of using education with a semantic approach in developing students’ reading comprehension skills of the Qur’anic text.
