Developing self-confidence to reduce social anxiety among middle school students

Abstract

The study aimed to find differences between the average ranks of the scores of the experimental group and the control group on the social anxiety scale among middle school female students in the post-measurement, and to reveal the extent to which there are differences between the average ranks of the experimental group’s scores on the social anxiety scale among middle school girls in the two measurements (pre- and post-test). (Post, Continuous), The survey study sample consisted of (100) female students in the third grade of middle school (early adolescence) at the 25th of January Preparatory School for Girls in Banha City - Qalyubia Governorate, whose ages ranged between (12-15) years, with an average age Its value is (13.65) and a standard deviation of (0.495). This sample was used to verify the psychometric properties of the study tools. The sample of the experimental study consisted of (30) female students in the third grade of middle school (early adolescence) in the city of Benha. Their ages ranged between (12-15) years, with an average age of (13.33) and a standard deviation of (0.358), and they had (low self-confidence, anxiety). The social level is high, and the sample was divided into two groups (15 experimental, 15 control). The study relied on the experimental method, and the researcher also used the self-confidence scale (by the researcher), the social anxiety scale ( by the researcher), and the social and cultural level questionnaire (by: Abdullah Muhammad Sharab 2013), the training program for developing self-confidence to reduce social anxiety among middle school students (by the researcher). The results of the study found that there were differences between the experimental group and the control group on the social anxiety scale and its components in the post-measurement in favor of the members of the experimental group. There are also differences between the students of the experimental group in the two measurements (pre-post) on the social anxiety scale in favor of the post-test. While there are no differences between the students of the experimental group in the two measurements (post - follow-up) on the social anxiety scale.
